We were delighted to host former Wales, and British and Irish Lions rugby international James Hook, together with Shaun McAuliffe from the Ospreys Rugby Operations team last month, for a day of evasive and tactical driving training at V-FORCE.
James, who retired as a rugby union player last year, made 6 appearances for the British and Irish Lions on the 2009 tour of South Africa and won 81 caps for Wales, and is Wales’ fourth-highest all-time points scorer.
In his club career, he has represented Neath, Ospreys, Perpignan and Gloucester and is currently a skills coach at the Ospreys Rugby team. James won 81 caps for Wales and is Wales’ fourth-highest all-time points scorer. Shaun McAuliffe was the winner of ‘Osprey of the Year 2018’ and works within Operations at the Ospreys Rugby team.
First order of the day was pistol training, using a paint-firing replica Glock 17 pistol, taught by former Royal Marines Commando and SBS operator, Tony Hayes Founder of SF1 Strength. Tony coached James through the basics of getting accurate rounds on target from various fire positions before progressing to a tactical scenario, and engaging targets.
Our advanced driving instructor, CEO and Founder Chris Vosper put James through an intensive car handling course. James conducted surveillance from his car against a hostile vehicle then, with his cover blown, had to react to an attack. He had to escape by getting into a fast reverse, perform a J-turn and continue through a slalom course using handbrake turns and rally-style handling to reach safety.
Finally, James moved to the unarmed combat training phase to learn some basic weapon defences, culminating in pistol disarms from multiple attackers. Tony, together with MMA fighter and stuntman, Jon Hunt put James through a highly intensive programme of training utilising the sophisticated SF1 Strength suspension trainer.
If you want to learn the coolest and most exhilarating driving and Special Ops skills,
