CLOSE PROTECTION DRIVING TRAINING (CPDT) (1 day)

Our Close Protection Driving Training Course is designed to give security professionals the essential driving skills required to operate confidently, efficiently and safely in protective environments. This intensive one day programme focuses on building vehicle control, improving driver decision making, and preparing trainees to manage high pressure, real world situations.

Through a blend of expert instruction and practical, scenario based training, participants will develop the foundation needed to drive proactively, anticipate threats, and maintain occupant safety in dynamic environments.

Training Modules:
Vehicle Dynamics Fundamentals

Understanding balance, traction, weight transfer and how these principles apply to CP driving. Advanced Braking & Cornering Skills
High precision control to maintain safety, stability and pace. Emergency Manoeuvres
Controlled braking, obstacle avoidance and maintaining protective positioning under pressure. Scenario Based Training
Realistic exercises to apply techniques under time pressure and simulated threat

VEHICLE DYNAMICS FOUNDATION COURSE (2 day)

At the core of this 2-day training programme is a sound understanding and skilful application of vehicle dynamics, to become a safer, more accomplished driver. Mastering the fundamentals of good car control in a number of different vehicle types will progress towards applied evasive and defensive driving, which will enhance your overall driving repartee.

Here is a breakdown of the course syllabus:

TECHNICAL BRIEFS

Familiarity and understanding of your vehicle – technical briefs, how the vehicle works, full vehicle check-over and assessment: critical things to check over which could save your life; pre-driving briefs.

VEHICLE DYNAMICS

Vehicle dynamics briefs – understanding the theory of grip limit and chassis dynamics, as part of a foundation of controlling a vehicle at, and beyond, the limit, for each different drive-train configuration.

FWD HANDLING

Front-wheel drive (FWD) car control, recognising understeer and oversteer – and safely dealing with it; lift off oversteer, back-to-back comparison of driver aids ESP/ABS on and off.

EVASIVE DRIVING

Evasive driving: Y-turns (J-turns), Handbrake turns, sequences of linked up advanced FWD techniques. Consolidation exercise in FWD advanced manoeuvres in a variety of scenarios.

RWD HANDLING

Rear-wheel drive (RWD) car control, focussing on power oversteer (and lift-off oversteer), power siding and controlling the slide. This progresses to rapid response driving exercises designed to establish safe, high-quality driving as a reflexive mental process.

AWD HANDLING

All-wheel-drive (AWD) car control, grip-limit handling skills; applied scenarios, threat mitigation, equipping the driver with the requisite skills to perform under pressure.

ADVANCED CLOSE PROTECTION AND TACTICAL DRIVING SKILLS COURSES

This highly focussed driving and vehicle operating skills training is for high-level close protection operators from UK and Foreign Government departments, and from the private sector, to significantly enhance the operator’s overall skill set. These 5 modules may be taken in any order, in isolation or combined into a 10-day intensive programme.

The fundamental objective of the training is high-quality safe driving regardless of the operational pressures the operators face. We progress from learning pure vehicle dynamics and advanced driving to applying those skills in the high-stress, volatile, uncertain, chaotic, and ambiguous situations that represent the most demanding environments the operators will ever have to encounter.

CLOSE PROTECTION DRIVING 2-DAY MODULE

DAY 1 - UNDERSTANDING THE VEHICLE; OFF-ROADING & AUSTERE ENVIRONMENTS

Understand the fundamentals of how the major systems of a car work
Thoroughly check over your vehicle, account for any deficiencies/unserviceability’s
Prepare for journeys taking account of the car(s) characteristics/capabilities/limitations vs the operating environment
Journey management, route planning, navigation, convoy drills
Vehicle dynamics theory for large 4x4s and SUVs
Off-road driving theory, vehicle checks, equipment, off-roading driver aids and systems
Off-road driving - terrain, obstacles, advanced techniques
Breakdown and recovery techniques

DAY 2 – ADVANCED ROAD DRIVING; CP DRIVING OPERATIONS

Advanced road driving theory – observation and hazard perception
Advanced road driving (based on RoSPA Gold standards) in large 4x4’s, FWD hatchbacks and RWD Saloons, automatic and manual transmissions, ordinary and executive-spec vehicles
Comms, convoy drills
Surveillance, anti-surveillance, and counter surveillance
Venue recce
CP Driving exercise (including driving skills assessment)

EVASIVE DRIVING 2-DAY MODULE

DAY 1 – VEHICLE DYNAMICS & EVASIVE MANOEUVRES

Road Traffic Incidents – RTIs/RTCs/RTAs
First aid and trauma management in a moving vehicle
Full-spectrum threat brief: aggressive/dangerous drivers, carjacking, mines, air threats, IDF, “insider” threat, VBIEDs, multi-axis ambush drills
Full-spectrum threat exercise

DAY 2 – VEHICLE GUNNERY & TACTICS

Replica (paint-firing) Pistol and Assault rifle weapon handling
Dismounted weapons handling & tactics
Vehicle mount and dismount drills
Vehicle immobilised drills
Vehicle marksmanship – culminating in engaging moving targets from a moving vehicle

Each 2 day module costs £2487.50 excl. VAT per person, minimum number of four delegates per course
